If I had children, I think I would tell them this more than anything: Be kind to yourself, and kind to others. In that order — grace directed inwards and then grace extended outwards to the people who come into your life. Curiosity and creativity and hard work and responsibility and growth can all come later, but none of it means anything if we don’t first enjoy ourselves and enjoy other people.
